How to Wash Synthetic Hair

Hey!

Wondering what it’s like to wash your synthetic hair? We are here to give you a step-by-step on how to. Making sure you know the proper way will ensure it lasts longer and looks fresh for the next time you plan on rocking it!

Step One: Detangling

Before you dunk your piece into water, you want to make sure all the tangles are out. We recommend a wide toothed comb or paddle brush to detangle. Lay it out on a table, start brushing from the ends and work your way up to the root to detangle!

Step Two: Washing

You’ll want to use cool water! Hot water can damage the synthetic fibres and we definitely don’t want that. Fill a sink with cold water, add a tablespoon of sulfate-free shampoo or wig shampoo into the water and place your synthetic hair piece in. Give it gentle, circular swishes in the water for 5-10 minutes and avoid rough washing it as it can cause more tangles and frizz.

Step Three: Rinsing

Refill the sink with clean, cool water and place your synthetic hair piece back in to get rinse out shampoo. Run cool water from the top of the piece (this prevents the strands from tangling), until the water runs clear.

Step Four: Conditioning

Squeeze out all the excess water from the hair. Add conditioner and allow it to set on for 5 minutes. Run cool water from the top again, until all the conditioner is rinsed out.

Step Five: Drying

Place your synthetic hair piece on a towel. Gently pat it dry to remove excess water. Avoid squeezing, rubbing or wring out the piece as it can damage the fibres.

You want to air dry your synthetic hair piece! You can pin it up on a wig stand or wig head, or even find an alternative way to allow it to air dry that is not in direct sunlight.

Making sure your synthetic hair piece gets some washing love will keep it looking super good for a long time. We recommend washing it for every 10 to 15 wears!
